WHAT IS VIEWPOINT FROM OHIO VALLEY HEARTCARE?
ViewPoint from Ohio Valley HeartCare is a screening program that provides Evansville-area residents with a convenient and fast method for evaluating for potential vascular diseases, and offers them education about peripheral vascular disease conditions and symptoms. This screening can detect potentially life-threatening problems and health risks, such as abdominal aortic aneurysms, hardening of the arteries and stroke indicators. Typically, consumers cannot see or feel these problems until a major medical event occurs, which may be too late. For example, abdominal aortic aneurysms can rupture without warning and frequently kill a person before the arrival of emergency assistance.
WHAT DO YOU EVALUATE IN THE SCREENING?
The ViewPoint screening features three evaluations, all using painless, non-invasive technology:
- A carotid artery screening to evaluate for stroke indicators
- An ultrasound exam of the abdomen to check for abdominal aortic aneurysms
- An exam which checks for peripheral vascular disease and hardening
of the arteries
WHO CONDUCTS THE SCREENING, HOW LONG DOES IT LAST AND WHAT DOES IT COST?
The 20-minute screening is conducted by accredited technologists in Ohio Valley HeartCare's nationally accredited Vascular Lab at the practice's main Evansville office at 901 St. Mary's Drive, Suite 300. ViewPoint screenings are by appointment only and the program's $60 cost is not covered by insurance. Visitors can pay by cash or check at the time of their screening.
DO I HAVE TO BE AN OHIO VALLEY HEARTCARE PATIENT OR RECEIVE A PHYSICIAN REFERRAL TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VIEWPOINT SCREENING PROGRAM?
No. Program participants do not have to be current Ohio Valley HeartCare patients, nor do they need a physician referral, to obtain the screening. Anybody can call for a screening appointment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE SCREENING?
ViewPoint technologists use painless, non-invasive technology to look inside the body to identify potential vascular problems and risks. During the screening, they also share educational information with ViewPoint visitors. At the screening's conclusion, participants receive a written report that includes exam results and any recommended treatment steps, and are encouraged to share the report with their primary care physician to determine appropriate follow-up treatment.
HOW DO I SCHEDULE A VIEWPOINT SCREENING OR GET MORE INFORMATION?
ViewPoint screenings are by appointment only and are available by calling 812.473.2642. Callers are asked to mention "ViewPoint" when scheduling an appointment. You can call this same phone number for more information about the program.
