Another procedure that is similar to traditional coronary artery bypass surgery is Off-Pump Coronary Bypass Surgery (OPCAB). This may be the procedure of choice for some patients because it is advantageous for patients with multi-vessel blockages on the front of the heart.

How It Works
In this type of surgery, the standard chest incision is made. However, the operation - like the MIDCAB procedure - is performed on a beating heart without the use of the heart-lung machine. Because of this, you will not experience potential side effects from the machine.
As with MIDCAB, you do not have the breathing tube in your throat for as long as you would in the traditional coronary artery bypass graft surgery, and you will have a shorter hospital stay than with the traditional surgery.
