These are inpatient procedures performed in a hospital. You will be under local anesthesia. You are awake during the procedure and you may be asked to cough, move or complete other simple tasks.

Depending on where your physician inserts the catheter, your groin or
arm is washed with a sterile solution. You
may feel twinges in your chest when the balloon inflates, but once the
blockage is compressed, this sensation should disappear. You may also
feel nauseous, feel your heart "skip", or experience a headache during
the procedure. These are all normal, brief side effects.
You will rest in a hospital recovery room for a few hours after the
procedure. Then you will move to a regular room. Most patients typically
return home the next day if their blood tests, electrocardiogram (EKG) and
blood pressure are normal.
