Angina Treatment Options

Instructions for those diagnosed with Angina
If you have been diagnosed with angina and are having an attack, you should follow the instructions provided by your Ohio Valley HeartCare physician. These instructions may include:

  • Immediately stopping what you are doing.
  • Resting by sitting or laying down.
  • Taking medications as recommended.

These measures should lessen the heart's need for oxygen, and you should feel better in a few minutes. Angina usually lasts from two to twenty minutes. If angina continues for more than fifteen minutes, despite resting and taking prescribed medications, you should call Ohio Valley HeartCare, visit a hospital emergency room, or call your local emergency medical services immediately because prolonged pain may indicate a heart attack.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms and the extent of aterial damage, your Ohio Valley HeartCare cardiologist may recommend medications or surgical treatment to relieve your angina.

If you or your family members have any questions about chest pain symptoms, please feel free to contact your Ohio Valley HeartCare cardiologist or medical specialist at (800) 26-HEART.
