Angina Symptoms

Symptoms of Angina

Angina can have many forms. It usually occurs as temporary episodes of pressure across the chest that sometimes extends to the arms, neck or back. Angina causes discomfort that varies in severity, from dull pressure or squeezing, to heavy choking, to a burning or crushing sensation in the chest. At times, it may feel like indigestion or tightness in the neck or jaw. Some people may only experience shortness of breath.

Factors that may cause angina symptoms include physical exertion, emotional stress, exposure to cold, digestion and sexual activity.

The pain is most often felt in the front of the chest, usually near the center. It is frequently associated with pain traveling from the chest to the neck, jaw and often down the left arm.

Other symptoms may occur with some patients experiencing angina in less common ways, such as:

  • A feeling of fatigue
  • Indigestion-like discomfort, such as the feeling of heartburn or gas pains.
