Driving & Work

What About Driving?

Because you remain somewhat sore for a few weeks following surgery and reflexes are not as brisk, we ask that you refrain from driving for 2-4 weeks after your surgery. The exact length of time will be individualized based on each patient's age and general medical condition. Your doctor will discuss this with you.

When Can I Return to Work?

This return is individualized based on the patient's job, age and overall medical condition. Patients with strenuous jobs requiring heavy lifting may need to take as may as 12 weeks off following surgery for complete recovery. Individuals with desk jobs may return to work somewhat earlier (possibly 6-8 weeks) if the patient's endurance will allow.

It is important to remember that you and your physician are partners in your recovery and the goal is to return to full functional status.
