Appetite & Activity Levels

What Happens to my Appetite?

Poor appetite is a common complaint following heart surgery. Good nutrition following surgery is imperative for adequate wound healing. We encourage you to eat as well as possible following your surgery. Your appetite will gradually improve over a number of weeks as you recover more completely.

Should I Watch My Activity Level?

Exercise is not restricted with the exception of heavy lifting as already discussed. We encourage you to walk, realizing that you are likely to tire quickly in the first few days and weeks following surgery. Stairs are allowed provided your balance is steady enough to maneuver them. Multiple short exercise sessions are better than one long exhaustive one.

If you or your family members have any questions about chest pain symptoms, please feel free to contact your Ohio Valley HeartCare cardiologist or medical specialist at (800) 26-HEART.
